In 2015, as I prepared to return to the United States, I had an epiphany.  Why not bring back the kind of Chinese teas that rarely reach Western shelves? Most tea merchants in the U.S. purchase from large wholesalers, which means the finest artisan teas, produced in small batches by family growers, never leave China. Local demand is so high that there is little incentive for small producers to export.

During my years in Asia, I formed lasting friendships with tea masters and enthusiasts who devoted their lives to the craft. Some of my friends would spend their vacations traveling deep into China’s tea-growing regions in search of exceptional leaves. Through their connections, I was introduced to independent producers who agreed to share a portion of their finest teas with me. That network of trust became the foundation of Bamboo Mist Tea, LLC.

The name Bamboo Mist Tea reflects the origin of many of China’s best teas, which grow high in mist-covered mountains where ancient tea trees thrive beside tall bamboo. These tea trees, some centuries old, produce leaves known for their rich taste, complex aroma, and remarkable health benefits.

Our logo features ancient Chinese characters pronounced rui cao kui, meaning “auspicious,” “plant,” and “exceptional.” They represent our purpose: to bring exceptional teas and the stories behind them to tea lovers in the West.

Bamboo Mist Tea was never about chasing wealth. It was about connection, culture, and quality. Tea is more than a beverage; it is an experience. If our teas can enrich that experience for you, then our mission is already a success.
